Covered California will continue partnership with these 11 different health insurance companies to offer Obama Care California health plans for 2017 and 2018. These 11 Covered California carriers are available in the individual and family marketplace. Six of the carriers are offered for group health insurance for California small businesses. 

The state of California has been sectioned into 19 different pricing regions. Health insurance company plan offerings and prices vary by region. Three or more health insurance companies will be available to at least 82 percent of all Californians, and there will be at least 2 carrier options for everyone.

Anthem Blue Cross

Founded in the mid 1940’s in Indiana, Anthem is a nationwide health plan that believes health connects people to each other. They are dedicated to offering quality care and providing value to their members, along with helping improve the health of communities. Anthem currently only offers EPO plans through Covered California in selects parts of the state which is primarily in Northern California. Blue Shield of California

Blue Shield, founded in 1939 and based out of San Francisco, is a not-for-profit health plan dedicated to providing Californians access to high quality health care. The organization serves more than 3.4 million members and has almost 65,000 physicians across the state. Blue Shield offers HMO and PPO plans as well as Health Savings Account plan options. Chinese Community Health Plan

Chinese Community Health Plan has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area since 1986. They have a strong commitment to providing high quality, affordable CA health care services to all of their members. CCHP coverage is available to anyone in San Francisco and/or northern San Mateo counties. They offer HMO plans.

Health Net

Based out of Los Angeles, Health Net was founded in 1977 and currently provides health benefits to 5.9 million individuals in all 50 states. Available in most counties in California, they offer HMO, HCSP, EPO and PPO plans. For more information, click Health Net Covered California.

Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente’s roots go all the way back to the Great Depression. Today KP is comprised of the nonprofit and public-benefit corporations: Kaiser Foundation Health Plans and the Kaiser Foundation Hospitals; along with the for-profit professional organizations, the Permanente Medical Groups. One of the largest not-for-profit health plans in the nation, Kaiser serves more than 10 million members and is based out of Oakland, California. L.A. Care Health Plan

As a not-for-profit health plan, L.A. Care believes in providing quality health coverage at an affordable price. They are the nation’s largest publicly operated health plan with 1.6 million enrolled members. L.A. Care offers HMO plans. For more information, click LA Care Health Plan.

Molina Healthcare

Founded in 1980 and based out of Long Beach, California, Molina Healthcare’s mission is to provide quality health services to financially vulnerable families and individuals covered by government programs. They have health plans, medical clinics and a health information management solution. No other organization of its kind does all three. Molina offers HMO plans. Sharp Health Plan

Serving San Diego and Riverside counties since 1992, Sharp is the largest locally based health plan in San Diego. Sharp is a not-for-profit organization that offers various health care options for individuals, families, and businesses. They value affordability and choice while delivering high quality care and personal service. Oscar Health

Valley Health Plan

Western Health Advantage

As a regional health plan, Western Health Advantage is happy to be a local organization. Founded in Sacramento, WHA serves families and individuals in Sacramento, Yolo, Solano, El Dorado, Placer, Marin, Napa, and Sonoma counties. Their mission is “To provide an affordable, high quality alternative to for-profit health insurance plans and national HMO’s. WHA offers HMO and Health Saving Account HMO plans. Medi-Cal

Medi-Cal is free or low-cost health coverage for children and adults with limited income and resources. It’s typically different from other Covered California plans because it is regulated by the state, and offered based on income qualification via the state.
