  • Aren’t insured by their workplaces

The ACA (Affordable Care Act) was meant to reduce health insurance costs so that more people could be insured. Low-income families who sign up through the California Healthcare Exchange can qualify for tax credits. These subsidies lower their monthly payment premiums. Any overpayment or underpayment is sorted out when paying taxes.

The good news is that anyone can sign up for Obama Care through the California Health Care Exchange – Covered California. If you need more information on plan benefits and costs, see Obama Care Plans and Prices.

Plans on the California Health Insurance Exchange

There are numerous health plans on the Medical Insurance Exchange of California. The two most common types are HMO and PPO plans. PPO plans are more flexible, allowing you to see a primary care doctor and any other specialist without a referral. HMO plans allow you to have a primary care doctor, but if you need specialized care, your primary doctor must refer you to a specialist.

Both PPO and HMO plans give you access to a network of hospitals, doctors and specialists who offer medical services at discounted rates. As such, pricing is mostly dependent on how broad the network is and whether you get referrals from your primary care doctor to see a specialist.
