Adopted a Child
Congratulations on the new member of your family! Whether your child comes to you through adoption or foster care, his/her addition is considered to be a qualifying life event as long as it happened within the last 60 days. This means that you won’t have to wait until the next Covered California open enrollment period to secure a Health Plan for him/her. Not only that, but your entire household qualifies for special enrollment. So along with purchasing a plan for the new member of your family, you can also shop for coverage for yourself and the rest of your household.
On the other hand, you also qualify for special enrollment if your child was placed for adoption or into foster care in the last 60 days.
Please note, that if your child came to you through foster care you’re going to need to select “adopted a child” as your qualifying life event.
